VALERIE ISSEMBERT
Valerie is a Washington, D.C. based actor, director, writer, and theatre teacher. Selected acting credits include: The Happy Elf, dir. John Rando, 12th Knight, dir. Donald Byrd, Paris Syndrome at HEREarts with EXPgirl Theatre Company who enjoyed back to back HARP (HEREarts artist in residency programs), Theatreworks USA’s inaugural tour of If You Give A Mouse a Cookie directed by emmy award winner Kevin Del Aguila, Il Barbiere De Siviglia and Les Contes D’Hoffmann directed by Tony award winner Barlett Sher at the Metropolitan Opera. Selected directing credits include; A Midsummer Night's Dream, Godspell, Peter Pan Jr., As You Like It, Urinetown, Alice in Wonderland Jr., Romeo and Juliet, Grease, Seussical Jr., and 12th Night.
In addition to acting as the Artistic Director of Bravo Productions, Valerie is the director of Drama at the Alexandria Country Day School, an independent K-8 co-educational institution committed to inspiring creativity through the arts, independent thinking, citizenship and community service. During the summer, Valerie serves as a director and teacher for the Wingspan Art Summer Conservatory, a tuition free theatre program available to middle and high school students in New York City.
Valerie is also a playwright and has produced two pieces which premiered recently in New York City and Alexandria, VA. Her first piece, Middle School Musical, is the story of students who are argue so ferociously about which show to put on at their school that they end up enlisting the help of their favorite musical theatre characters; Annie, Oliver, Joseph, and the sisters from Fiddler to help them find a solution. Valerie's second piece was a stage adaptation of the New York Times best selling children's book, The One and Only Ivan, about the story of a captive gorilla who helps save a young elephant from a life of abuse as an attraction in the local high way strip mall.

Valerie holds a BS in Theatre from Skidmore College and a Master's in Educational Theatre from NYU. Valerie has also trained at Carnegie Mellon University, the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, and the Université d’Avignon in France. She is bi-lingual and a dual citizen of France. As a committed life long learner and theatre practitioner, Valerie hopes to continue her studies at L´Ecole Internationale de Théâtre Jaques Le Coq in Paris, where she will further develop her technique and methodology.
